Godi Media to Virodhi Media: How Hindi YouTube Channels Operate in India

Today, you can buy fake social media fans, followers, or subscribers like you buy onions and potatoes in the vegetable market.

The excerpts from a new media research report “Godi Media vs. Virodhi Media 2023 Research Report” are given below. You can also download the report.

After Godi media (or lapdog media), Virodhi media (or opponent media) is steadily proliferating in India. The Virodhi media channels exist on YouTube and deliver their content in Hindi.

Since most anchors and so-called journalists on Virodhi media channels lack skills, they do not understand various social media subtleties. They are usually fascinated by Twitter, as they quote tweeted statements frequently in their shows. They fail to understand how Twitter operates in India.

In a country of 1.4 billion people and more than 900 million voters, Twitter could get only 24 million users (including fake accounts) during the past over 16 years of its operations in India.

But the social media fraud does not end at Twitter only. Rather, it extends to the Virodhi media YouTube channels which make false claims about their number of subscribers and views for videos.

When a Virodhi media channel begins a LIVE video, only a few people – maybe 50 or 100 – are watching it, although the channel claims to have a few hundred thousands or over a million subscribers.

But surprisingly after a couple of hours, the same video shows thousands or more views and a number of comments under it. So, are these views and comments real?

Today, you can buy fake social media fans, followers, or subscribers like you buy onions and potatoes in the vegetable market. If you search Google to decode the mystery of the YouTube ecosystem, you will find that like other frauds happening on social media, YouTube is also a victim of huge deception.

There are a slew of web stories which reveal that the fake YouTube subscribers are openly on sale or you can even hope to get free subscribers. Along with subscribers, you can also buy views, likes, comments for your YouTube videos no matter how good or bad your videos are.

The YouTube subscriber sellers not only sell on the open Internet, but in order to increase their revenues, they also advertise on social media platform Facebook. Their ads appear openly to sell YouTube subscribers to help rogue channels increase their number of subscribers artificially to hoodwink the consumers.

The Facebook ads claim that YouTube channels can buy permanent subscribers at the rate of less than one rupee per subscriber.

It seems that the business of selling fake YouTube subscribers to deceptive channels is emerging as a lucrative domain in the new-media market which runs without any rules or regulations.

If you search Google with the text string “how to buy youtube subscribers”, you will get plenty of options to buy bogus subscribers that will deceptively inflate your number of YouTube subscribers.

Therefore, there is a strong possibility that the Virodhi media channels are buying fake subscribers to conceal their real performance which is not good.

As there is a need to improve the content quality of digital media platforms, an exclusive watchdog agency should be established to monitor, audit, and rate these platforms including the YouTube channels.

It should be made mandatory for the YouTube channels to display the ratings given by the independent agency on their channels and linked websites. Also, a new law should be made to stop deception and fraud on social media including the YouTube channels.

These are some of the facts stated in the Godi Media vs. Virodhi Media 2023 Research Report. You can download the report and share it with your friends and colleagues so that they could support this editorial initiative.
