Apple Enters Foldable Market with iPhone Duo Launch

Apple has officially announced the iPhone Duo, expanding its smartphone lineup with a foldable form factor. Pre-orders for the device opened on Friday, October 16, through apple.com and the Apple Store app.

The iPhone Duo represents a design shift for Apple, delivering the largest display ever seen on an iPhone while remaining compact when closed. Built around a precision-engineered hinge system, the phone is designed to combine daily portability with an expansive canvas for mobile computing, gaming, and creative workflows.

Display Architecture and Hardware Performance

When opened, the iPhone Duo stands as Apple’s thinnest iPhone to date. The internal screen measures 7.58 inches diagonally, offering 50 percent more viewing area than the screen on the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Closed, the device presents a 5.36-inch outer display that provides 90 percent of the viewable area of an iPhone 18 Pro in a pocketable design.

Under the hood, the device is driven by the A20 Pro processor, providing high-efficiency computation for demanding applications and background intelligence tasks. To support the dual-screen form factor, Apple implemented a custom dual-battery architecture engineered to sustain all-day battery life. The device also carries an IP68 rating for splash, water, and dust resistance, withstanding immersion up to 6 meters for up to 30 minutes under laboratory test conditions.

The iPhone Duo introduces an upgraded camera system tailored for both traditional photography and hands-free video communication:

• 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide Camera: Supports expanded wide-angle shots and detailed macro photography.
• Center Stage Front Camera: Automatically adjusts framing for photos and video recording in both portrait and landscape orientations.
• Under-Display FaceTime Camera: Positioned beneath the inner screen, enabling video calls whether the device is unfolded flat or propped on a surface.

iOS 27 and Siri AI Multitasking Capabilities

Operating on iOS 27, the interface dynamically adjusts as the device folds, reorients sideways, or flips between displays. The software introduces enhanced productivity tools designed specifically for the larger canvas:

• Split View Multitasking: Allows users to run two applications simultaneously side by side, such as keeping Mail open alongside Siri AI or reference documents.
• Adaptive Display Orientation: Dynamically transitions app layouts based on the angle and hinge positioning.
• StandBy Mode: Transforms either the inner or outer screen into an active hub for widget information, photo frame displays, or clock interfaces even when not connected to a charger.
• Siri AI Integration: Built on Apple Intelligence, Siri AI incorporates onscreen awareness and personal context understanding. Launching in beta in English with iOS 27, users can query Siri about content displayed on screen or use Siri mode in the Camera app for instant contextual visual lookup.

The iPhone Duo is available in two finishes: Star White and Night Sky.

Apple has introduced two dedicated accessory lines designed specifically for the foldable device:

• iPhone Duo Folio: Available in Taupe and Navy Blue, featuring an adjustable built-in kickstand for hands-free viewing and FaceTime calls.
• iPhone Duo Case: Available in Sand and Navy Blue, featuring a lightweight two-piece protective shell. Both accessory lines feature magnetic alignment and support MagSafe, Qi2 25W, and Qi-certified wireless charging standards.
