Expanding Access to AI Infrastructure

NVIDIA is now a key participant in the U.S. National Science Foundation’s (NSF) State and Regional Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Hubs program. This initiative is designed to expand access to the advanced computing, data, and software necessary for AI-enabled research and education. The program supports state and multistate consortia composed of colleges and universities, allowing them to pool expertise and focus on local priorities while achieving economies of scale.

To ensure flexibility, these hubs will utilize various infrastructure models, including on-premises hardware, cloud computing, or hybrid solutions tailored to regional economic needs. This approach draws on the successful 2020 public-private partnership between NVIDIA and the University of Florida, which served as a national model by providing AI compute access to all Florida public universities. Since then, the University of Florida has grown to include over 300 AI-focused faculty and has secured more than $511 million in AI research awards.

Democratizing AI: NVIDIA and the NSF are bringing high-performance computing resources directly to regional institutions and the communities they serve.

Building a Modern AI Workforce

The program emphasizes that infrastructure alone is insufficient; a successful national strategy must include a workforce capable of applying AI in real-world scientific and industry settings. NVIDIA will support this by providing training resources, educator enablement, and technical guidance to help institutions move from basic awareness to hands-on capability.

From Classroom to Career: This initiative establishes the critical educational pathways needed to prepare students and working professionals for the AI economy.

Educational institutions, including community colleges and regional partners, are encouraged to develop:

  • Degree programs and short-form certificates.
  • Stackable credentials for working adults and professionals.
  • Applied skills in sectors such as healthcare, energy, agriculture, manufacturing, and cybersecurity.

Connecting Research to Regional Growth

By fostering collaboration between government, higher education, and private industry, the hubs aim to translate AI leadership into high-quality jobs and new businesses. Private-sector contributions will complement public investment with implementation expertise and workforce development programs. This sustained collaboration ensures that advanced AI resources are not only available but effectively directed toward the scientific and educational priorities that advance both regional and national interests.
