Indian Minister Opens Tech Campus in Chhattisgarh

Piyush Goyal, a minister in the Indian government, today opened IIIT Naya Raipur (IIIT-NR) for IT entrepreneurs and professionals.

The minster also launched the Institute’s website in the presence of chief minister of Chhattisgarh Dr. Raman Singh and announced an innovation lab to be set up by National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) in the Institute. IIIT-NR is an initiative of the government of Chhattisgarh started with the support of NTPC.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Raman Singh, chief minister said “By joining hands with NTPC, we believe that our government has created a golden opportunity for Chhattisgarh to contribute to the ‘Make in India‘ effort.”

The campus is spread across 50 acres and plans to provide facilities including smart classrooms, labs and Internet connectivity. It will receive its first batch of students in August 2015.

The Institute is set up with an investment of Rs. 200 crore and with a scholarship fund of Rs 18 crore.

As India’s human development index (HDI) – which indicates the level of skills in a country – staggers at a dismal rank of 135 in the world – there is hardly any workforce in the country that is employable in any professional job.
