Global Expansion Across Key International Markets
In a strategic effort to scale its conversational advertising ecosystem, OpenAI has expanded its ChatGPT advertising pilot to five major international markets: the United Kingdom, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, and South Korea. Confirmed as fully launched as of August 11, 2026, this international expansion follows earlier phased rollouts across Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
The advertising initiative initially debuted in the United States on February 9, 2026. OpenAI established the program to build a sustainable revenue model capable of funding the computational infrastructure required to maintain fast and reliable service for global users on its Free and Go subscription tiers.
Next-Generation Conversational Ad Formats and Workflow Integrations
Alongside geographical expansion, OpenAI is introducing AI-native advertising experiences designed to make brand interactions more interactive and helpful. A primary addition is Sponsored Agents, which allow users to initiate a direct conversation with a business-sponsored AI agent upon clicking an advertisement within ChatGPT.
To streamline campaign creation, businesses can draft ad concepts using prompts within ChatGPT Work. Additionally, OpenAI has upgraded its Ads Manager with automated creative assistance that suggests copy and imagery based on landing page content and campaign objectives. Optional AI text customization features can automatically adjust headlines and descriptions to fit specific conversational contexts or translate ad text into a user’s preferred language.

OpenAI has also established its initial platform integrations with major enterprise tools:
- HubSpot Integration: As OpenAI’s first CRM partner, HubSpot enables businesses to create ad campaigns, monitor performance, and manage lead follow-ups directly within the HubSpot workspace.
- Shopify Integration: Serving as the first ecommerce partner, US-based merchants can manage campaigns via the ChatGPT Ads app in the Shopify App Store, leveraging automated Shopify Catalog syncing. This application expands to eligible international markets starting September 23.
Preserving Core User Experience and Unbiased AI Responses
OpenAI operates the advertising program under a strict Mission Alignment model intended to protect platform utility and user trust. A fundamental operational principle is that advertisements do not influence ChatGPT‘s organic answers. Platform responses remain unbiased and optimized strictly for helpfulness, with all sponsored content clearly labeled and visually distinguished from organic chat output.
Users seeking an ad-free environment retain access to premium tiers, including Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Education. Users on the Free tier who prefer not to view advertisements can choose to opt out in exchange for a lower daily message limit.
Strict Data Privacy and Safety Protections
To uphold data security standards, OpenAI restricts advertisers from accessing personal conversation histories, memory logs, or individual user identities. Advertisers receive only aggregated performance metrics, such as view counts and click rates.
Ad matching relies on the immediate conversation topic, past interactions with advertisements, and previous chats. To protect sensitive demographics and contexts, the system enforces strict safety parameters:
- Age Restrictions: Automated systems block advertisements for users predicted to be under 18 years of age.
- Sensitive Content Exclusions: Ads are strictly prohibited from appearing alongside conversations related to politics, health, or mental health.
User Control Settings and Advertiser Onboarding
Users maintain management options through a dedicated settings interface, where they can dismiss ads, submit feedback, or clear ad data with a single interaction. An Ads History log allows users to review previously displayed brands and adjust their personalization settings at any time.
Organizations seeking to participate in the expanded advertising pilot can apply through the official OpenAI advertiser portal at ads.openai.com or through connected partner applications in Shopify and HubSpot.
