India: Aadhaar-PAN Linking Date Extended

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the date for linking PAN with Aadhaar till 30th June, 2018.

Earlier it had allowed time till 31st March, 2018 to link PAN with Aadhaar while filing the Income Tax Returns. According to a statement released Tuesday, CBDT said that the date has been extended after consideration of the matter.

Of late, there have been numerous reports about the security lapses in the management of Aadhaar database.

Aadhaar is a 12-digit individual identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on behalf of the Government of India. This number serves as a proof of identity and address, anywhere in India.

The Supreme Court of India also has extended the March 31 deadline for an indefinite period for mandatory linking of Aadhaar with mobile phones and bank accounts.
