The Evolution of Collaborative AI: Introducing Claude Tag
Anthropic has officially announced the launch of Claude Tag, a significant evolution in how professional teams interact with artificial intelligence. Unlike traditional single-user chat interfaces, Claude Tag is designed as a “multiplayer” experience, specifically integrated into Slack to function as an active participant in team workflows. By tagging @Claude in a channel, team members can delegate projects, allowing the AI to break down requests into manageable stages and work through them autonomously.
A Proactive Digital Teammate
Claude Tag represents a major leap forward from the previous Claude Code and Cowork models. It is built to be proactive; through “ambient” behavior settings, the AI can flag relevant information across channels, follow up on unresolved threads, and provide updates without being prompted.
Move beyond single-chat sessions; Claude Tag learns your team’s context over time to deliver smarter, proactive results.
The tool’s effectiveness is already evident within Anthropic itself, where 65% of the product team’s code is now generated by an internal version of Claude Tag. This usage has expanded beyond engineering into tracking product metrics, managing support tickets, and performing root-cause analysis for technical bugs.
Key Advantages for the Modern Workspace
According to the company, Claude Tag offers several distinct advantages for enterprise environments:
- Continuous Learning: As Claude remains in a channel, it builds “tacit knowledge” and context, meaning users do not have to repeat instructions or background information.
- Asynchronous Productivity: Teams can assign tasks to Claude and move on to other priorities. The AI can schedule its own projects and work autonomously over hours or days.
- Enterprise-Grade Control: Administrators maintain tight control over sensitive data. Separate “Claude identities” can be created for different departments (e.g., Sales vs. Engineering), ensuring that memories and data remain scoped to specific, authorized channels.
Availability and Integration
Claude Tag is currently available in beta for Claude Enterprise and Team customers. It utilizes the Opus 4.8 model and is intended to eventually replace the existing Claude app for Slack. Organizations looking to migrate have a 30-day window to opt-in, and Anthropic is offering introductory launch credits to eligible organizations to encourage company-wide adoption.
