SOS Online Backup has made available SOS for Mac 2.0, the latest version of its software for Apple’s personal and professional computers.
According to the company, the new application is easier to use and allows access to backups from other Macs as well as Windows PCs, smartphones and tablets – at http://www.sosonlinebackup.com/mac.
“Macs are known for being simple but powerful and our new Mac app was built with the same philosophy,” said Ken Shaw, founder and CEO of SOS Online Backup.
“The data-detecting Smart Scanner quickly finds the important stuff on your computer and for those of us that use Mac as well as Windows and Android, SOS makes it easy to create your own personal cloud from all types of sources.”
The first time SOS runs, the Smart Scanner automatically detects important data that is exposed to loss like photos, documents and music – it can also be customized to include/exclude any data the user chooses.
The software then visualizes how much of each type of data will be protected; the user can start the backup instantly or schedule it to recur at another time; files are encrypted and stored in the secure SOS cloud.
A single SOS for Home account can protect 5 PCs and Macs including an unlimited number of smart-phones and tablets without any per-computer fees, says the company.
Using SOS for Mac, subscribers can restore and manage data that was backed up from any of their SOS-protected computers including files from mobile devices such as Apple’s iPhone, iPod touch and iPad or smartphones and tablets running Google Android.
Released Tuesday, June 19, SOS is available for homes starting at $15/computer/year (smallest plan backs up 5 computers) – there are downloads for Windows and Mac plus Apple iOS and Google Android as well as Facebook.
The SOS cloud infinitely archives file versions for later restore and never automatically deletes data considered “old.”
For small businesses, SOS for Business protects an unlimited number of PCs and Macs, provides unlimited versioning with Timeline Recovery and has built-in local backup – it starts at $39.99/month.
For enterprises with large Windows networks that need bare metal backup, Cloud Boot capabilities, granular Exchange backup/restore and other advanced needs, there is SOS ServerSave starting at $129/month.
Based in El Segundo, California, SOS builds online backup, cloud storage and file sharing software for homes and small businesses, server solutions for large enterprises as well as branded solutions for managed service providers, resellers and OEMs.
