WALLDORF — In a major move to modernize the global food supply chain, SAP SE and Syngenta announced a multiyear strategic technology partnership on January 15, 2026, aimed at accelerating AI-assisted innovation across Syngenta’s international operations. The collaboration is designed to embed artificial intelligence at the core of Syngenta’s enterprise, transforming everything from manufacturing and supply chains to the digital tools provided to growers.
Addressing Global Food Security
The agricultural sector currently faces significant hurdles, including climate variability, supply chain complexities, and global economic uncertainty. By deploying AI-assisted tools enterprise-wide, Syngenta aims to strengthen its operational resilience and meet the monumental challenge of feeding a projected 10 billion people by 2050.
Feroz Sheikh, Syngenta Group’s chief information and digital officer, described AI as the “catalyst for agricultural transformation” and a “core competitive edge” for the company. He noted that the partnership with SAP is fundamental to Syngenta’s commitment to becoming an agriculture company with AI at its core.
Building an AI-First Operating Model
To achieve this digital transformation, Syngenta will utilize a suite of advanced SAP technologies:
- SAP Cloud ERP Private Solutions: These will be used to modernize core operations across the entire value chain, providing the agility and scalability needed to navigate market volatility.
- SAP Business Data Cloud: This solution will create a unified and secure data foundation, which is essential for real-time decision-making and seamless AI integration.
- SAP Business AI and Joule: By leveraging SAP’s AI-assisted tools, such as the Joule copilot, Syngenta intends to drive smarter, faster operational decisions and accelerate the pace of innovation.
Empowering Growers and Ensuring Sustainability
Beyond internal operations, the partnership focuses on delivering superior products and services to growers worldwide. A key component of this initiative is ensuring that growers retain full control and privacy over their proprietary information while benefiting from AI-driven insights.
Philipp Herzig, chief technology officer at SAP SE, emphasized that this partnership sets a new “benchmark for digital innovation in agriculture”. He stated that the collaboration demonstrates how cloud and AI technologies can drive sustainable growth and efficiency in a critical industry, ultimately helping Syngenta “future-proof its operations to feed the world responsibly”.
