In a strategic move to conclude the European Year of Digital Citizenship Education 2025, the Council of Europe and Google have entered into an ambitious partnership designed to reshape how learners across the continent engage with technology. This collaboration aims to equip individuals of all ages with the essential skills needed to navigate a rapidly shifting digital landscape, with a primary focus on online safety, media literacy, and artificial intelligence (AI) literacy.
Merging Policy Expertise with Technological Innovation
This partnership leverages the unique strengths of both organizations to reach users across the Council of Europe’s 46 member states. The Council of Europe provides the necessary policy expertise and educational frameworks, while Google contributes its technological innovation and a suite of established educational initiatives.
Key programs being integrated into this effort include:
- “Be Internet Awesome” and “Be Internet Citizens” for safety and responsibility.
- “Experience AI” and “Meet Leo” to enhance awareness and understanding of artificial intelligence.
- “Super Searchers” to improve information literacy.
These resources are designed to foster practical skills for safe and responsible online participation, empowering both civil society and individual users.
A Roadmap for the Future (2027-2031)
